⚔️ 1. Strategy and Sacrifice at Olustee Station
The intense five hour battle took place near a railroad stop about 40 miles west of Jacksonville, where roughly 5,500 Union soldiers clashed with 5,000 Confederate troops. The battle ended with a Union retreat but significantly disrupted resource lines. Beyond the battlefield, the resilience born from this era paved the way for historic local milestones right here in Central Florida, including the 1887 founding of Eatonville, the historic haven built by African Americans to govern themselves and foster a thriving community in our backyard.
